We always have a woman in the White House. Generally, we get two for the price of one.
The First Lady is a full-time, life in the public eye and performs the required duties for us and for the US government.
Have we paid any of them for this work as a ranking member of our government? And isn’t it about time we do? And, include all living First Ladies in appropriate consideration of their efforts.
Have we conscripted these women to service without pay all this time while requiring her to attend to our affairs of state?

Let me tell you something about extreme engineering where lives are at stake – even one system failure is unacceptable. Not even close to appropriate to explain after the fact, that most of the levees held or most of the cranes were fine or only one corner of the building collapsed. That is not fine and certainly it is unacceptable to experience any of these systems failures, partial or not.
When people’s lives and safety are involved which is generally – “always” in some measure, then engineering must be brought to higher standards. Always, this time, everytime, the inspections must be rigorous and kept also to the highest standards throughout the life of a project. Any loss of life, permanent alterations of people’s lives and opportunities, loss of safety, loss of property and economic impingements must be considered as unacceptable losses due to project failure.
In this, there is not “good enough” as a tolerable standard to use for any reason, economic or otherwise. Every engineer has a conscience, every project manager has a conscience and whether it seems so or not, every bureaucrat and business person has a conscience, as well. This is where we put conscience to practical use.
It is absolute. When lives and safety can be jeopardized by engineering projects to a less than adequate standard, it must be changed into what will work, what does ensure safety and to what is completely sound to protect people’s lives. This high standard is the only thing “good enough” and acceptable in project engineering of any kind. It includes any and all changes made in the project specs by everyone involved including project managers, business owners, businesses and government supervisors and policy makers.
A few failures out of an entire group of the project are that many too many. This is based on the basic tenet and absolute fact in engineering that there are no “acceptable losses” and even one system failure is one too many.

How To Figure Out If America Is In A Mess Or Not –
2008 Cricket Diane C Phillips
Now look, this is simple. For every home foreclosed in America, it impacts a minimum of three people – doesn’t matter if it was an “investor” or not. It changes the buying power of at least 3 people.
Take the total number of homes in foreclosure or where the foreclosure has already occurred over the last two years and multiply by 3. That is a conservative estimate of the immediate and specific impacts of those events.
Then, put that number under the heading, “Foreclosures – losses”. Next, make a column for “Foreclosure – ripple effects”. Take the mean average of interactive positions affected by each of those 3 people. This means they aren’t giving at church anymore, or buying groceries where they used to live nor attending school, soccer or scouts, etc.
Multiply the first number by 25. This is not the accurate mean average. It is a conservative estimate which includes drug stores, discount stores, auto repair businesses, dry cleaners, sports activities, restaurants, malls, gas stations, little league and others. Make a list of these, if you want. It really is a conservative estimate.
Therefore, column one has the conservative “real” number of immediate real lives affected and column two has the conservative estimate of the “real” impacts to the buying power lost to businesses and surrounding community services, organizations and churches across the United States.
Then, take the number (as close to actual as possible) of jobs lost over the last 2 years, (not unemployed because those numbers are fudged). Using this number, multiply by 4. This is the average number of people affected by a job loss. This goes in column four under the heading, “Jobs – losses”. It represents a conservative estimate of the buying power lost when one single job is removed from the family it was supporting or helping to support.
Now, take an average mean of the impacts in dollars no longer available to use to buy things. Use an average base that is conservative. Lest we forget, these numbers and multipliers are the highest probability of assured impacts because the estimates are on the conservative side. The real impact numbers are much greater and amplified to an extreme that can only be imagined using these charts.
So, using the conservative dollar estimate of $500 / week or $12,000 per year – whichever makes you feel better about it – multiply the job losses number by either (or both) of these numbers. Enter this amount in a column title, “Job losses – ripple effects @ $500/wk” or put in the $12,000 per year number, instead, whichever was used. This represents the absolute minimum amounts of buying power that has been lost by these job losses.
Now, if you’ve done this right, all these numbers will represent the same time period, (2 yrs); and the same basic conservative estimation process used on all of them to derive a clearer picture of the problem that has occurred across the US.
When comparing this chart to any other derivations of impacts and losses, – remember this, they don’t mix. It is nearly impossible to get a true picture of how other impact charting was done and whether their figures mixed apples and oranges. Or, whether the statistics and studies used narrowly defined, targeted, select denigrations of totals to use for the derivations and base totals because of bias, intent or ignorance.
The close to damn accurate chart you’ve just made starts to show a clearer picture of the real problems we face in this historic time of national crisis. It explains why our businesses are failing in record numbers, our towns and cities are being heavily impacted financially and otherwise, housing developments sit empty and a host of other services are going bankrupt.
It isn’t what can or can’t be put on credit or borrowed that signifies the greatest and most severe part of our economic crisis. It is the true loss of buying power in the consumer base that supports all of it. These columns of numbers are conservatively generated to supply a realistic assessment of cause and effects relationships in our economy. It evidences a severe problem, even in its most conservative derivations.

inIs there any way to talk ya’ll into not ever using the word “bubble” again to describe these clearly devastated economic factors and indicators?
The “bubble” is not even a good lie anymore. It was not intended to explain anything we are seeing now.
When “experts” are allowed air time and public access in companies meant to advise investors and others about economic conditions, there is inherent to that position – a responsibility to be knowledgeable – opinion has nothing to do with it.
Clear and honest advice and representations of the facts and what they really do mean is required. This isn’t an option, it isn’t based in opinions and it isn’t appropriate or legal to misrepresent these facts.
Look at what these “experts” said in February and March of this year when very obviously there was every evidence that we were heading into an economic disaster. This event horizon was not only predictable, it was indicated in factual, evidence across huge sectors and every indicator in our economy.
This isn’t rocket science and it isn’t hard to figure out. Even the least educated citizen in America and our children with their lack of experience and knowledge could see there was and is a serious problem.
What peeves me most about this is that – for several years the international economic community told US experts, authorities, regulators and our government leaders that there was a growing problem in America’s economy. They showed them all the evidence that there were shoddy and criminal accounting practices being used in our banking and financial business houses.
These authorities in the US were shown over and over again that our dollar was sitting on a failing precipice without any system or plan to back its value. They were told to fix it and to stop these illegal profit re-valuing practices. The international teams last year demanded the US fix the problem through a serious re-working of some specific areas of concern.
The US financial community and government entities involved were given highly educated and practical solutions that would’ve worked to fix it before our economy dissolved into a third-world status, a depression or both.
And, what do we, as Americans get for all this effort both here and around the World?
We get to see a few enjoy the lifestyles of the aristocracy while we walk by an abundance in our groceries and stores without any money to afford any of it.
We watch our leaders fly all kinds of shitty projects to serve themselves and their own interests and friends while none of us get to own our own homes or build opportunities for ourselves.
We watch our laws and regulations be used to the inth degree to chattel us while any applicable law and regulation fails to apply in any form to our government decision-makers, business buddies of theirs, financial institutions and other “favored” classes.
And, we get to watch as our families become homeless, our children and their families become homeless, huge sectors of our population are unemployed, our businesses at every level are going bankrupt and failing and our opportunities to have a better life are being destroyed.
And, we watch all of this while a few “fellow citizens” make decisions that affect us all which are counter-productive to a healthy economy in the United States and around the World so that they can profit at our expense now and in the future.
Who do they think they are?
We do the work, we get their goods and services to them, we buy their products and we keep them in business or in office.
We pay their salaries, we are the investors in their companies, we are the hounds that fetch for them and get for them what is needed to do their jobs, and we are the ones whose backs they are standing on to be where they are.
What are they thinking will happen that is so merry and delightful – do any of them really believe that in the reality they’ve created – they are safe and free of accountability for what they are doing? The day is here when we know that enough is enough and our aristocratic rule must end.

Why are we using levee technologies from 150 years ago in America? How is it possible to believe that over a million tons of turbulent waters will be held in place by earthen levee systems? Reliability has failed, reality has shown that it doesn’t work and we have paid a huge fortune for research, research, research, study, study, study – but none of these efforts have resulted in substantial changes in the corps of engineers’ approaches nor in better systems for levees, dams, bridges, flood recovery after systems collapse nor useful updated systems. After 1993 flooding in the Midwest, how could the levee systems have not been recreated and restored to something that would work to prevent their collapse in 2008? Who decided the manner in which it was done and is about to be re-done the same way which will fail next time?
I also would like to know what specific individuals at FEMA were responsible for stopping those new goods in the warehouses from being distributed to Katrina victims in a timely manner. And, what specific individuals and chain of command decided to mark them as surplus, why the FEMA decision-makers and others in our government judged these supplies to be un-needed, and who specifically made that decision. It is our right to know why and how these decision-makers can be so completely “off”. Are they all doing drugs? Have they created a process by which they cannot make accurately based decisions? Do they not watch the news? Do they not go “on-site” before making these determinations? Are they living in some other country most of the time? Do the chain of command systems at FEMA and at the Corps of Engineers (and other agencies) form the basis for criminal negligence on a consistent basis?
Also, there was a show that described a man’s thirty years of efforts to make liquid gas from coal and he has created a proven process and method for this – why aren’t we seeing this man’s work be brought into the marketplace to solve some of the gas and diesel fuel problems? Why isn’t the man’s efforts, also shown on public broadcast, to create an algae based farming for ethanol fuels being given to distribution for the marketplace and whatever is required to do that made available to him? Where are the total electric cars that were successfully created by our automakers and why aren’t we supporting these companies, including the tesla car – to get these cars into our hands right now/ immediately? They’ve already been created, they do work, they do solve the problem and they can be made affordable for us – what is wrong with doing whatever it takes to get these to us?
Our government bias to speak for oil companies that are using our national resources to make their profits – must change. It isn’t thirty years from now to get these things done with the studies, research and alternatives that have been being designed for over thirty years back from here. The status quo isn’t a practical alternative for thirty more years, not for even two more years and in fact, not even for six more months. The speculators are engaging in illegal and criminal gambling practices at our expense and the oil companies have over three hundred percent profiteering practices which is also illegal (considered gouging, opportunistic profiteering beyond what we allow to any other business or industry or companies of any size, and they’re using natural and American taxpayers’ resources and moneys to make these profits). Our US government leadership, decision-makers from all positions are engaging in favoritism, conflicts of interest and self-serving abuses of their power and position to further the agenda for oil companies and others that are fully capable of competitiveness without these unfair advantages.

inYou know, I watch your coveted positions that are insulated and isolated from the worlds you serve. I believe all of us in America, know how untouchable you are behind your fortress walls in corporate America. We know that of hundreds of millions of lives you affect everyday, that you are unapproachable, unreachable and unattainable where you have positioned yourself to sit. Anyone with an ounce of sense can see that.
However, the little protected world where you live is no bigger than my own, no matter how grand and free it seems. That you have money for what you do and typically, I do not, means very little in the greater scheme of things. That you enjoy the flow of rivers of money from where you sit and are protected by the walls of people, resources and limited access you’ve built is certainly worthy of note. It must give you a false sense about the world where all of the rest of us live.
Right now, I’ve lived in a city and in the country of my birth that is closed to me. My daughter in New York sits at a women’s shelter in the Bronx, where, too, the resources of employment, opportunity and lifestyles available in New York and in the country of her birth, America, are closed to her and closed to her talents, skills, experience and knowledge.
The unfortunate part of all this, is that you and those around you, the worlds and the markets you serve, as well as, the nation where we live need to know what we know. Without this information about what we have experienced, learned and created as solutions to real life, real-world, real-time situations in America and the solutions we have (and are) creating, you and your gifts to the world will continue to fall short of their targets and far short of their true potentials.
Now, I realize, as everyone probably does, that you think you have every thing and every access to anything you need. That may seem to be true from where you are sitting, but you are slighted by that very perspective. Not everyone in America is pretty, handsome and “right” looking as you are. In fact, most are having to conduct their lives just as they are, whether good-looking or not. Many, many people have problems and situations they can’t throw money at to solve or don’t have the money to use for solving them. There are other ways to approach these matters than the perspectives that you and your staff members can offer.
We are at a historic time in America. I can help, my daughter homeless in NY can help, each of my other children have ways of creating unique and practical solutions to help also and with our real knowledge about living in America, you could excel beyond measure. We really are a bit different and if people will stop trying to force us to be cured of our difference – that ability to use our experiences differently than you do could be of real help to America’s current dilemmas
We cannot extend our hands to you. It has not ever been made possible at your insistence on being insulated from the masses. However, when you get off your dead ass and decide to do it – I am asking for three things:
1. Treat us fairly, equitably and with honesty, respect and decency.
2. Extend a reasonable amount of your resources to us in a fair market value for our interacting with you and any of your uses of it.
3. Give us gifts because we like them and include tours and explanations of your worlds and experiences, your hopes and dreams long forgotten and goodies that will make our lives more tolerable, effective and enjoyable.
And yes,
We do accept money and will require you to be fair with us about that. But, know this – there isn’t enough money in the full breadth of your world to buy what we know, what we can create and what we can inspire in you and around you – so, as we work together, keep in mind that we (and I do mean, each of us individually and collectively) know you are more savvy about such matters and hold you personally accountable to that knowledge. And, so will everyone else in the world when it gets right down to it.
Thanx so much for your time –
Let me know when you are ready and as I can be of any help to you,
If you happen to decide to send anyone to locate my daughter at Franklin’s, please do listen to the way she tells you what is happening to people in America because it is the truth, no matter how odd it may sound at first. She is a Golden Child and holds vast knowledge, ability and real-life experiences, creative solutions that work, creative and novel approaches to problem-solving, and cusses, as I do when we talk about the real world where we live and you really, really do need to know these things and have open access to them in order to help America now.
Thank you,

With the help of my daughter A and Baby J, we turned my house upside down to clean, organize and vacuum everywhere. I live in a large 1 bedroom condo that is very small for what I am doing in it with art, business, inventing and other things like that happening all the time.
That means, that whenever something is restructured, everything gets shifted around to somewhere else. As work areas were pulled down and created anew with different forms, focuses and work spaces, I grabbed things in peril and moved them.
Now, on my bathroom counter sits a lot of what I consider my “special” stuff and seeing it there everyday has reminded me that maybe I am different in a lot of ways. There are so many things I find important and special which are nothing to others around me and that mean nothing to many people in their ways of viewing things.
Maybe I’m not supposed to understand that and perhaps it is not wrong to like and to appreciate what I like. What I consider “special” is an odd collection of things from the natural world and a set of man-made things given to me by my children over the years. I also like the science, inventing and knowledge tools I’ve acquired and tools for creating things where I live. And, things my children have made for me or written for the world and me.
So, I have a dragonfly, tiger cicada, wasp and grasshopper in a six-sided clear container and a small green garden snake, long dead in a glass potpourri case sitting on moss and flower petals. And, the roses and rose petals, that my son, S gave me for mothers’ day long ago. I have rocks and flat fall leaves that still have their color which I pressed in a book and a perfect fern frond from many years ago which I’ve saved from the day I found it.
There are beautiful things that my children have chosen for me and that they have made for me, along with some they made which I claimed because I like them. There are my sand dollars that daughter S brought me from the beach and sand and seashells and a malachite jaguar that was made by hand by an artist in North Carolina. And, a beautiful white porcelain winged dragon with gold accents and a bow tie that daughter K gave me for an occasion, maybe four or five or ten years ago.
Time simply isn’t the same in my world and a day that I’m living is greater than counting the days that came before it. I live where I live and if it is here, it is here and I play with it, enjoy it, do with it or change it to do what I can. If a person or thing is not here, well . . . it will get here when it gets here. In the meantime, my favorite things are those “special” stuff items that are now sitting on the bathroom counter out of the action zone but where I can see them.
There is a telling story about my sense of priorities. Last fall, I was showing my work at a regional antiques festival and painting while on location there over the course of four days. Each evening when we closed up the booth, I left my art and took all my tools, paints, paintbrushes and drafting table and easels home. There was a friend that asked me why not leave all that there since we would be back the next morning and well, I just couldn’t do it. I would’ve been upset if my works had been ruined but I absolutely wouldn’t take even a chance on losing the tools I use to create them.
