This is a visual communication device – using the visual languages that I use in the way I use them – This one tool below (the first and then second of the images here) expresses an entire sentence including when it is happening and how it is built on the efforts made in the past – and about what it is about to become now through current aspects that are being realized. It is a very complex communication in visual identifiers juxtaposed with one another and using the colors’ aspects of communication, shapes, heightened contrasts and the position of elements within the device.
Although it is only a postcard – this one visual communication device can satisfy the requirements of real life statements of fact (of certain types) such as those found in complete sentences in verbal languages – which I’ve used here from the combination of visual identifiers and visual language components inter-constructed according to the manner in which I use them as visual language tools.

Visual Communication Device from the Adaptive Living Tools Visual Language Tools group – by cricketdiane 2013 – Means turn the tv down please. – when held horizontally. If turned vertical – it means please turn the tv sound up.
To be honest, it beats throwing something at the person in the room with me and putting my fingers in my ears, then pointing my thumb down at the floor to indicate the same thing – but either one works.

I was making a series of postcards with the elements on each that comprise the visual language components so others can use them. Then, after making a number of them, I thought people might like to see what an entire sentence looks like (as a statement sentence of facts and when elements) as I would use them.
This above – is an entire sentence as I would use the visual languages to tell myself something (both to remind myself about it and to remember how it is occurring or has come about). In this case, I can explain that the small purple arrow component on the bottom right foreground describes ongoing into tomorrows – and the left-hand square of black with its outlines indicating an arrow and block of black from the past – indicates the past upon which foundation this occurrence and its events are based and have come about. Those are the when components, except for the now – which is indicated in part by the long black rectangular blocks on either side of the center components. That registers these facts as “now”, not later, nor yesterday but centered and focused in “right now”.
The color indicates certain things to me, based on my personal use of various colors to mean different things to me. The center block of neon yellow-green means that we’ve taken this as far as it needs to go now – meaning not to go to extreme measures of going or doing – concerning this past the point and level where it currently stands – (because we have come to the level of effort and going and doing or the degree of doing so that works and to go to a greater extreme of those things would likely not increase the current results. Yellow-green and neon yellow-green / chartreuse means that in my visual languages. The square / rectangular shape of that feature actually tells me that the direct results of the efforts indicate they are stable and factual, known results have been occurring and the results are positive and stable.
The black square encircling the yellow-green element tells me that it is all in black and white now – meaning there is a factual basis for what is known about it and that results are ongoing. The bright purple of that certain tone around it is a personal note that I’m excited about this and going to be excited about this – that these are good things (and in relation to elements also included about the past efforts these results have been built from – tells me that these good things have come from those past efforts being built upon into now with results happening now and in the ongoing days ahead of this one.)
Well, sort of – those are the best words explaining it that I could give right now, but there are other components in this communication device that are intentional and part of my language which I don’t have words to describe yet. I can say that because it tells me more things than those described here. One of those is that these are things that I’m both currently working on and are continuing to do, go and work on – even though not intending to do them with a greater level of intensity nor a greater degree of speed or efforts than the level that is currently being used, but I can’t explain how exactly it visually tells me that and it does – something about the juxtaposition of the elements and their colors in use within certain sequences against one another and in relation to one another.
**
A slightly different statement of fact about the “current” situation – this one shows how the various changes to the communication device’s elements and their relationships to one another show an entirely different message, despite being the same colors, shapes and visual identifiers in sets used to form each of these two are the very nearly the same.
The visual communication devices that use the visual languages and identifiers to complete them – are complex examples of what verbal languages take many words to express, but the visual terms to say them can be seen and known immediately – once the language is understood adequately. It is actually much faster to use than verbal languages, skills and for circuitry in the brain to process – and that is true, even without a brain injury or stroke having compromised those brain structures.
As I noted – this is a slightly different statement sentence (which also includes components indicating “when” or time elements) –

These are the tools as I use them. The previous post indicated some of the vast array of components that actually make up the language and its elements can literally be infinite. It is not, as many people may suppose – having a picture of an apple stand for an apple – although that is certainly an aspect of visually based languages and tools as well.
That comprises a visual identifier as well – but to visually explain to me how to eat that apple, how I have learned to accomplish eating it (as a series of actions and its process of their sequences to one another) – it takes something beyond a bite out of the apple picture or someone taking a bite of the apple photo on a card.
Those are types of visual mnemonics are helpful reminders, though – for remembering to do eating and to consider an apple as an option for something to eat, or to grow a plant from, or to make ink stamps out of, or to make a pretty star stamp from the seed pods cavity in its center, or to use for making apple pies or applesauce – or even to buy some of the apples at the store, although strangely enough – that takes a more complex visual to exemplify it because apples in the store are in an array of various products and packaging from applesauce to bagged apples and I’ve got to know what that looks like to even consider it on the list of things to buy.
Hmmm………….

Seems very complicated – but it isn’t really. And, to many people who see the basic tools of the visual languages think it is the act of a simplified verbal language – but it isn’t. There is little about it that is actually the same as the verbal languages process the communicative information contained in anything. And, it isn’t as simple as having assigned a meaning to each color and shape, then learning to use them – not quite.
And, people who don’t use visual languages predominantly or exclusively for their brain to process communicative information – won’t know this, but simplifying the verbal languages and its propensity to name and niche every single thing it uses – isn’t enough to make it a useful tool or set of tools for people with damage to those areas of their brains. The fact is, the “other” circuitry isn’t going to recognize any of those things in the same way nor be capable of processing them in the same way.
The right-side of the brain where visual language skills reside, is more likely to use them in analogic ways and to process the information both analogically and holistically at the same time – immediately, innately and to amazing levels of comprehension and understanding of how the new information will fit with old and relate to it. That can’t be done automagically by the left-side of the brain and must be learned, intentionally thought through to know those relationships and takes a degree of time to do so.
Visual languages are not like that once they are learned and it has become thoroughly appropriate to allow the full processing of those visual languages without referring to the left-side of the brain types of language processing to do it. That is luckily very easy for me to do – but very hard for many people to do with their dominant verbal skill sets trying to take control of the processing which doesn’t work worth a damn on it.

Below, are the visual identifiers of this set – which are components of the visual languages and the tools derived from them (as I use them.) These make it easy to see that they could mean entirely different things, despite the fact they are using the same two colors in combinations with shapes and quantities of color in juxtaposition for communicating certain specific things –

Obviously this is not all of these that I’ve made which are part of the library of visual tools, visual identifiers and visual language communications devices that I’m creating on the store – for lack of a better place to put it or any other way to do it for others who need them to have access to them.
The fact is, the entire library is likely not needed in total, but rather components selected for specific purposes at various stages of the process. I am putting them specifically on postcards, business cards, magnets, stickers, what are called, “rack cards” that are long and skinny as well as on small invitations that open so they can either be used flat or standing open to place on a counter or bookshelf, or even tacked to the wall.
Among the products offered at zazzle to put them on, these seem to be the best for this because they aren’t tremendously expensive and a person could pick one or two to incorporate into their other adaptive living tools and strategies to use without having to buy an entire comprehensive set which would probably be overwhelming all at once anyway.
The library of visual identifiers on the adaptive living tools store will be more extensive than it is now. The tools above will be found in their own category as soon as I get over there and make it – right now they are likely in the new products category with all of the set there that was made today, although that does not constitute an entirely complete set quite – there are some other visual relationships to add yet for the set.

And, so far just over 90 pages of the book about the adaptive living tools is written, but it is set up to be a paperback book, which means it is far less “type written pages” than that. It has been much harder than I expected and hopefully, either I or my daughter will edit it to make it more readable. I didn’t even try to do that as I was writing it as I sometimes do just to get the material and experiences written down this time.
I very much hope it will be done soon, so it can be put online and then the images and diagrams added to it – or to a companion material about the visual languages specifically to go with it.
