Okay, so maybe your Dad isn’t a geek. Mine is. And for my children, both their parents are geeks – so there you go. Nerds are everywhere.
So, when I started designing with Fathers’ Day in mind, that idea of what would I give to people that I know including my own Dad, became the shirts for Mad Scientists, Engineering Geeks and the Very Geeky. I can honestly say that my Dad doesn’t wear tshirts as outerwear – that wasn’t done when he was going to college. But, today –
Today – this is fashion appropriate.
And, there are a lot of people who could and would proudly wear a tshirt like this proclaiming the fact that engineering, science and math are important to them – and that they are good at it.
Once upon a time not so many years ago, it wasn’t socially acceptable to be a geek. The trendy thing to do and to be – was, stupid – party happy and stupid. The D students were made into the heroes of our society and of every school . . .
And then . . .
They needed their computers fixed . . .
and it wasn’t so trendy to be stupid anymore.
If your Dad is a nerd, Fathers’ Day is especially hard because the stores don’t sell slide rules – and in case you don’t know what that is, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slide_rule
and because geeks and nerds generally have nearly every gizmo, gadget, techno goodie and new tech crap that has come into the market from cameras to cellphones to computer things to software and every little funky micro gadget in between that can plug into the USB port and do anything . . .
Heh, heh, heh . . .
People who don’t have geeks for Dads or Moms wouldn’t know that. And, there are only so many power saws, tools and other handy implements of destruction and construction that can possibly be handy after a certain number are already owned – although, my Dad did have to borrow my really, really large belt sander and fell in love with it . . .
Oh no . . . I just admitted we are a family of geeks. We are just about all like that, except for my Mom but don’t let her fool you – she has her geek moments too. And, DON’T play her in Chess . . .
and, DON’T put any money or chores or doing dinner or anything else on the game, if you do decide to play chess with her . . .
Maybe there is a bit of geek and nerd in all of us. And, that is a good thing.
