CricketDiane Photo Tour of New York City –
TimeOut – Taking a break to get warm . . .
Be back in a bit.
My Note –
Now, aside from the hundreds of photos that I took and my daughter took as I walked around New York City last week – our other special experience is what New York City gave back to me. The Carl Icahn House East run by Carl Icahn with his $11 billion dollar fortune, gave my daughter and 10 month old granddaughter a pass for the Thanksgiving holiday from their “Tier II” homeless shelter at the Latham Hotel through Saturday explaining precisely to her that she was to show up before the 10 pm curfew time on Sunday evening and then when she and my granddaughter got there before 10 pm on Sunday, their room was locked and the next day, all their belongings were thrown out on the street. It was about 31 degrees.
She was not the only young mother and baby that was thrown out along with all their belongings. Apparently, after giving these women holiday passes (including my daughter and grandbaby,) the Carl Icahn House East staff of Grandberry, Brackett and director Alida Comacho rescinded the passes and claim all these women were non-compliant and refused to sign in within forty-eight hours as required. Their belongings were trashed and broken. They were thrown out into the street after dark with it windy and less than 35 degrees. None of them were drunk nor on drugs nor had they been drinking.
The women were told they had a pass, which they signed. My daughter clearly told them more than once that I was visiting from Georgia. She wasn’t allowed to have me visit where she had been staying at the Latham Hotel and she has kept a job, showed up, suited up and followed the rules they gave her. Apparently, they had been writing her up for not making her bed and apparently the federal laws about evicting someone from their living space do not apply in New York City nor in the properties paid for through the funds for housing homeless women and their young children.
Carl Icahn and his vast profits from raiding corporations across America receives funding and grants and tax graces for having these homeless women in these hotels which he runs with staff that have no intention of finding or placing these young single mother families into permanent housing, nor treating them fairly and humanely. Personally, that is one hell of a Christmas gift to me and to my family – for New York City and Carl Icahn and his rich Bloomberg friends to give to me the personal experience of watching my daughter and granddaughter with all their things on the sidewalk of 31st and Park Avenue where the rolling cart holding them fell apart after it was all thrown out at the Icahn House East Latham Hotel by their sadistic self-serving bigoted, prejudiced and profit-driven staff members.
I had been running around New York taking beautiful photos to share with the world and what I’m given in return is to watch my daughter and 10-month old granddaughter thrown out in the freezing cold streets of New York City without justification from a homeless shelter hotel room that belonged to them, was rightfully theirs, and was paid for by tax money and federal stimulus dollars and charitable funds and New York state funds, New York city funds, and HUD funding.
To serve as a fitting reminder of what America is, and what New York and America and the rich people of New York such as Carl Icahn and his Icahn House staff members think of us as fellow human beings – and what they are willing to do to any of us on a whim without reason, humanity or good sense – I offer the gift New York gave to me . . .
Locking my homeless daughter and grandchild out of a room that was paid for by tax money and charitable funds and tax breaks into a night below freezing after nightfall with all their clothing and belongings and food and diapers and baby formula and toys broken, trashed, and destroyed with them left to fend for themselves and nowhere to go because I came to New York to have Thanksgiving with them and my daughter was granted a holiday pass for it by the Icahn House East staff who chose to rescind it after giving it.
The people at the Icahn House East including Mr. Billionaire Carl Icahn that set it up this way and who did this to my daughter and my granddaughter can go to hell. Coalition for the Homeless in New York City – what a joke. The wealthy in New York City aren’t worth the the time and space God gave them on this earth if that is all they can do with it – to prey upon the less fortunate and deal sadistically with the poor among us. They can all go to hell.
There is nothing left in America worth saving.
So, of course I looked it up online when I got home. The Latham Hotel is used by the Icahn House East as a homeless Tier II shelter. In the information I found, the grants funding them state unequivocally that they are to provide stability and permanence along with making every effort to find permanent housing opportunities, better employment opportunities, recreation, education and training opportunities. It doesn’t say it, but some of my daughter’s paperwork had stated that the Latham Hotel was paid $2700 per month for her and my granddaughter to stay there. It also says in the grant information and Senate information about the program funding that each of these “nonprofits” that are operating, including the Icahn House East owned by Carl Icahn are given a per diem per client of $53 per day on top of the rent in order to provide these services listed above. I will go to my other computer and find the actual documents that were culled from a number of online sources to post them.
It is a fact, that these people were being paid to act in a way totally the opposite of what they did and they are required by law to provide housing that is free of rats, (which apparently it was not) and paid for rooms which are air conditioned in the summer (which it was not) and heated in the winter (which at least on many of the cold days so far, it was not) and to provide the services listed above which apparently they made no apparent attempt to do or my daughter and granddaughter would be living in their own apartment already using the Advantage NY housing voucher that she had earned the right to use.
The employment my daughter has, she continues to show up to work and to do the job to the best of her ability while she is there. She is honest, decent and trustworthy – cares about her job and the work she does. But, that doesn’t matter – now does it. She has kept going to work, despite the fact that the Icahn House staff put her and her baby out in the street. And, now she has to buy blankets again because those were lost in the things that were thrown out, and warm baby clothes again – because those were lost when they threw her things out on the street. She has to find a way to get baby formula again and jars of baby food – because those were thrown on the sidewalk too – by the very people who were supposed to be on her side, fending for her and helping her to get on her feet.
*** I have to stop. I’m having trouble thinking of any sentence now that doesn’t include fifteen cuss words starting with the words – fuck those jackasses. Usually that means the English language is failing me about this subject matter. And, I would say it is. ***
There are no words horrific enough to describe this and the wrongness of it. They’ve got churches gathering donations of toys and food for Christmas for these same homeless women and children in this shelter, while the staff at the Icahn House is literally and illegally throwing the young women and their babies out into the street. It is insane. (And, the nonprofits have already been paid for those rooms and those services for these women and their children. Carl Icahn and his “charity” has already made the money they wanted to get out of it based on the requirements of the grants to provide for them whether they do actually provide those services or not.)
In fact, it isn’t just insane.
I guarantee you, there is not one New Yorker who will do anything about fixing this. There is not one attorney, not one politician, mayor, governor, senator nor attorney general’s office investigator that will fix any of it nor make it right. There is not Donald Trump nor any of his rich friends telling Mr. Carl Icahn that is not okay, nor that he needs to make it right. There aren’t any women’s groups that will fix it nor even attempt to make it right because there is nothing in it for them whether young mothers and babies are thrown out into the street by homeless shelters designed to help them get on their feet or not. There aren’t activists, political parties, Americans, Tea Party members, conservatives, liberals, gays, lesbians, veterans, soldiers, police, lawyers, or Senators that are going to do one thing about this nor make any efforts to fix it. That is the truth.
In the New York City government, their interest is in whether the person is “really” homeless or not – when the real fraud that is being perpetuated is by these big businessmen including Carl Icahn who create charitable organizations to get out of paying taxes, then use them to gain subsidies and tax breaks to purchase buildings, get taxpayer funds to revitalize and renovate buildings, use housing homeless women and children to get the guaranteed income to meet their hotel or building overhead and then screw the needy recipients of these services – out of those very services by which they were guaranteed in order to receive that profit-generating income and get ownership of the property in the first place while having it paid for by taxpayers and charities.
On some documents I found, the 2005 list contains 90 rooms that Icahn House East charged the New York housing authority for providing to homeless women and children at somewhere between $77 and $90 per room per night plus $53 per day per client for services to be given to them. Quite a little windfall for staff that sits on their asses and fill out papers, check to see if the clients came in the door before 10 pm (although they are sane, sober, over 21 and free citizens of America and working members on top of it), and check to see if they made their beds or not. Isn’t that some challenging job they apparently aren’t even qualified to get right?
Then on top of that, I found another document indicating the state paid the Icahn House West over $698,000 one year and no telling how much for the other charities based on homeless shelter rooms, in the Bronx and Manhattan at the Icahn House East. The initial properties were probably picked up for next to nothing, tax money used to subsidize buying and renovating them and then the operational overhead is paid by the homeless shelter funds plus some and any money made by renting rooms to the tourists is free money and clear profits. Hmmmm………………
Ohh my, oh my, oh my – what an ugly, ugly horrific possibility. What if – these Tier II homeless shelters are simply a way for Mr. Icahn and his fellow New York hedge fund crowd to buy a building, own a building and acquire a building (particularly a hotel) without ever paying out a dime and having our tax dollars cover all of it for them including the operating expenses using the backs of our homeless women and children to do it.
That could explain so much. And, then they and their friends turn to the same homeless people they are feeding upon and treat them like they are the scum of the earth, the bad guys and the cause of all New York’s problems.
When I watched Russian Prime Minister Putin on Larry King a couple nights ago, he said that they care for their mothers and babies. It was especially poignant to me when he said it in light of what America and the City of New York had just done to my daughter and granddaughter along with other homeless mothers and their young children on the weekend after Thanksgiving. I genuinely don’t know what their level of humanity and humane kindness is in Russia today, but I do know what it is supposed to be and isn’t in America’s well-funded New York City and in Atlanta, Georgia and in West Georgia and in South Carolina and in online information I’ve had about other places across America. As far as I can tell, Americans treat murderers, criminals, drug kingpins, Bernie Madoff multi-millionaire thieves, common thieves, bank robbers and rapists with more respect and compassion than they want to offer to homeless working mothers and their children, even those born American citizens. Who the hell are you people to act that way?
And who the hell does Carl Icahn think he is to do this to my blood relations who are in economic distress trying to live in New York City and be decent contributing members of that state and city? How dare he and his organizations prey upon the helpless children and young impoverished mothers that are the working destitute, homeless and hungry of our nation? Who does he think he is, doing such a thing? And how dare the people running the City of New York and the state of New York and the charities of New York City to let Carl Icahn and his rich friends do this to these homeless mothers and children? They threw them out into the street without cause – into the cold night with nowhere to go after taking the money to house them and provide for them and protect them.
What kind of nightmare have they created with intent to profit themselves this time? That isn’t American. It isn’t decent – it isn’t even legal what they’ve done. It is stealing from the poor and intentionally causing horrific suffering to the most vulnerable and least capable of fending for themselves. What is the word for that, if not, “consummately evil and maliciously cruel” – although I doubt those words mean anything to a man with an $11 billion dollar empire who is untouched by anything he causes or does to others.
I sure wish I felt better now, but I don’t. My own response besides helping my daughter get their things off the sidewalk was to try and sell my laptop computer with the rights to use all its contents (was listed on Ebay Nov. 29 – 30, the day after it happened) – and that had all of 24 views and no bids despite placing it on my blog and letting people know about it. I give up on it – there is no good left in America and not one thing of value worth saving. I’m beyond my measure to know what else I can do besides file some complaints with HUD and state offices in New York which are unlikely to make one difference. And, there is nothing of value I can offer – now that I know what the world in general thinks of the last five years of my research from physics to finance, all my thousands of international contact points, art, music, photography, writing and inventions that were on my computer offered at a reserve of $700.
I know the sale of even one good NY photo that I had done would have returned the buyer of my computer and its contents at least that much money but no one was even interested, not the 600+ readers a day on my blog, not the people who have seen my work over the last thirty years online and in person, not my family, not my friends, not even interested strangers that know what any one thing could have made for them in real money. I offered the non-exclusive rights to all my work found on the computer.
And, considering that the computer isn’t a year old with 220 GB of space / and my work is sitting in a little less than 105 GB of it – all my research in engineering, science, physics, chemistry, atomic energy, materials science, ocean cards, paintings, original designs, and thousands of photos, video clips (maybe not worth anything) – plus literally thousands of contact points for a variety of things throughout the US and the international communities of the above subjects plus finance, banking, international security industry, materials science and polymers contacts, and macroeconomics. So, I want to tell you – that if those things are not worth $700 in America – then I don’t have anything to work with to help my daughter nor myself. And, apparently that is the case.
(plus over 1500 photos just taken of New York City, any one of which could be sold to the New Yorker magazine to use one time for $3600 – like they pay everybody else for a photo to run).
This isn’t America. Its apparently Nazi Germany East or something and nobody told me.
Oh yeah, and my granddaughter in New York is in a daycare that leaves her in a crib all day, gives her formula instead of feeding her while she is there and she is 10 months old. But, supposedly – that is because she is a white baby instead of a black baby according to people who live in New York City. Now, damn it – that just isn’t right either.
And for the $2700 per month plus $53 per day that the HUD, state and city funds paid for my daughter and granddaughter to sit in a non-airconditioned room at the Latham Hotel with rats and no way to cook their meals – almost any apartment including most of those available in the various sections of Manhattan could have been acquired and paid for . . .
What kind of crap is that?
Here is one more photo that I took in New York City last week – which apparently wasn’t worth $700 to anybody on Ebay or my blog that could’ve been made into posters, a book cover or sold to a magazine or used in an advertisement by whoever had purchased my laptop computer when I put it on Ebay trying to raise money to help my daughter get a place to live –
