Live video on CNN and CNNI right now – lots of earthquake damage and even greater tsunami damage –
Tsunami’s are expected to hit other nations around the Pacific – Warnings
Hawaii estimated first wave of series at around 2.59 am Hawaii Standard time – according to CNNI
8.34 GMT the Tsunami will arrive in Russia
There is a list that was just given – a couple hours for people to get out of the way – Get to higher ground
Japan has fires – water massive – with debris everywhere
USGS info about the earthquake – click on the map tab at top to see where it centered – but the extensive damage from the tsunami being shown is near Sendai Airport, Japan
Tokyo and other areas have been affected – although the damages being shown are across the northern areas of Japan – Reuters pictures
BBC probably has live pictures also
Tsunamis are still rolling into the coastline in Japan
Other nations will be affected by tsunamis in the next few hours –
Suggestions by the news stations are that if you know anyone that lives in the areas that will be affected by the tsunamis heading toward those nations – to call them now and get them to go to higher ground and alert their neighbors to do so . . .

Earthquake happened in Japan 2 and a half hours ago – it is 3.16 ET am now in Georgia where I live.
4 meter and then 10 meter wall of water crashed through Miyagi province and Sendai Airport area – There are huge ships laying on their sides and water everywhere in this area of Japan – the news is saying that there are more tsunamis still coming in now – just said but the damage is already done
8.9 earthquake – aftershocks – fires at a refinery and at some buildings – Japan a few hundred kilometers north of Tokyo has been hit by tsunami – they are showing pictures now
Tsunamis are racing to other nations now – these are not just one wave – it is a series of large waves with a lot of power to drive onshore carrying debris.
Tsunamis are expected to start hitting –
Hawaii at around 3 am local time about 2 1/2 hours from now
Taiwan at 9.30 GMT
Philippines 9.55 GMT
Mexico – Oregon Alaska – Chile Ecuador – arrival in the next twenty-four hours
The Tsunami of 7.3 meters which hit some areas of Japan means a wave of 24 feet with massive water behind it – they said on CNN that the waves will wrap around the islands – as in Hawaii
One of the waves in Japan was 10 meters high ( 33 feet high wall of water) – this is a series of waves with a lot of water to carry inland
The suggestion is to get at least a half mile away from the coast and to higher ground
Civil defense warning sirens – mean to tell people there is a tsunami on the way to that area –
One of the reporters on Hawaii noted that many tourists have not known that these sirens meant to move to higher ground
They noted that this will not be buffered by any other land masses as the 2004 Tsunami had been when it arrived at the other side of the Pacific
At least 18 aftershocks have occurred since the earthquake in Japan according to the CNN reporters just now – There are still tsunami waves continuing to come in – the series has not completed yet
(3.50 am ET right now)
More waves are expected for Japan – according to the news sources from the USGS and Tsunami warning centers
This is the second largest quake recorded – and the worst in Japan
It looks like a whirlpool they are showing on CNN out in the ocean right now – that is not good. – That is water.
The earthquake was centered 150 km off the coast of Japan. Sendai airport videos didn’t have any planes – – it was affected by the tsunami and is sitting in water as is the entire area. Apparently a number of buildings have been damaged.
There are 44 fires reported in six prefectures in Japan – according to ABC World News – just now.
There have also been pictures and video of a refinery on fire.
The reporters and anchors on ABC World News just mentioned that there are 2 million people that live in Sendai. The earthquake hit during the daytime there while people were at work. There are 13 million people in Tokyo – the earthquake happened northeast of Tokyo.
from CNN and Bloomberg earlier –
4 million homes without power.
Earlier on the Japanese news press conference they mentioned that the nuclear power plants were not leaking and had been secured after the quake.
on CNN a minute ago – there was either a really large boat or a large low building moving in the water like it was nothing but a toy. Probably video from a little while ago actually – maybe.
A rise in the sea level of the Pacific basin has been noted already,
This is the chart of the aftershocks –
from the USGS site –

CNN just reported a dam has broken in Japan washing away homes below it – also one nuclear plant in danger of meltdown is being managed
!2.14 pm ET
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reported that US military planes are providing coolant for Onagawa Nuclear reactor acc to Jill Dougherty on CNN at 12.30 pm ET
Secretary Ban Ki-moon made a statement just a little while ago – says United Nations stands ready to do anything to stand by people of Japan
President Obama is speaking now
an IReport on CNN says that phones are down in Japan but internet available and some power restored – people using Skype to communicate
My Note –
I looked at the USGS charts and the last two days there are a swarm of earthquakes before the 8.9 magnitude quake – and apparently every fifteen minutes or so, they are still occurring with many now around the 5.5 magn.
Amazing to see the buildings that stood and provided safe harbor during the earthquake – some videos showing them from inside as the earthquake hit.
CNN reports now that there were 80 fires across Japan
The dam that has broken swept away 1800 homes – Fukushma ( my guess on the spelling) – The Fukushma Onagawa nuclear plant has been secured now Japan government says radiation rising in a containment building? But, the area has been evacuated within 3 km of it. Supposedly the US military has brought coolant? to it – according to an earlier note to reporters made by Secretary Clinton.
And, thank God the tsunami wasn’t large by the time it got to California because people had come out to see it – that has got to change.
