Cricketdiane First Day Walking Tour New York City -2010 - New Jersey in the distance

When I came to the end of the street where the pedicabs were - I found this very busy bridge and New Jersey's buildings sitting on a cliff across the water. I took several pictures but this one is probably the most interesting as I was trying to find a way across which required going back up the block where I had come and going over a couple blocks to find a way across and I took more photos on the way.

First Day Walking New York City cricketdiane - beautiful New York buildings

Whatever this building is, it is amazing for its undulating french curve form and its windows that open in the middle in every window. Really remarkable. And the colors are great too. Very unusual. Great architecture like something right out of a book.

The view of misty distant skyscrapers all bunched together seen from the edge of the curving building.

First Day Walking New York City cricketdiane - between the buildings

It is hard to see this in the shadows, but in this small parking area between buildings, it reminded me of the Mediterranean and European homes with internal gardens surrounded by the buildings - but here the cars use the space for parking where the buildings have built-in to surround the courtyard.

I brightened it a little and it looks like a walking bridge over the space, there is a lone tree growing inside the area and cars – and painted over windows in the building straight ahead – what a bizarre practice.

The previous photo less artistic and more practical for seeing the space. A strange little courtyard made more for cars than for people.

Cricketdiane First Day Walking Tour New York City - 2010 - A bit surrealistic scenes abound in New York City

With the sky's clouds so dramatic and reflected in the windows of the building, this scene captures an appropriate billboard from the Mentalist that says - Let the Mind Games Begin . . . Almost A Surrealist Image.

Cricketdiane First Day Walking Tour New York City - 2010 - Sunlight and skyscrapers

Sunlight peering around the buildings from a blue sky with whisping clouds. Maybe it isn't - but the top spaces of the VW building look awesome and empty.

First Day Walking New York City cricketdiane - Pigeon in NYC awaiting the walk across signal

One of New York's law-abiding citizens - a pigeon awaits the walk across signal at the intersection. Ms. K's favorite picture.

Amazing view of West 54th Street and 11th Avenue - with the walk signal lit (for the pigeon in the last photo) - along with the amazing view of the building reaching skyward behind it.
