Messages to the world: the statements of Osama Bin Laden

By Bruce Lawrence

especially the last paragraph on pp. 45

[My Note – that person responding to the question is not the same person who made the statements mentioned in the article below – they don’t talk the same, nor construct their patterns of thought the same. So, either the translation was extremely bad or it wasn’t Osama bin Laden or someone else is now writing his material . . . or something funky.

His focus isn’t the same message that flows consistently through all the other materials he is known to have said, written or conveyed – in fact, this material claimed below to be from him, doesn’t even fit with his commonly and consistently held belief about what the causes or fixes for the situation and the Islamic nation’s “insults” that have been endured, etc. etc. etc. – and since when does he use words like “neoconservative” – is he sitting in a cave somewhere watching Glen Beck or something?

Who wrote this for him with a claim that he knows what the opinion polls say we believe? What kind of nonsense is that, regardless of where he is? Something is wrong with that picture . . . ]

Bin Laden warns U.S. on Israel ties: website
Sun Sep 13, 2009 11:45pm EDT

DUBAI (Reuters) – Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden warned the American people over their government’s close ties with Israel in an apparently new audio tape posted on an Islamist website on Monday.

The time has come for you to liberate yourselves from fear and the ideological terrorism of neo-conservatives and the Israeli lobby,  Bin Laden’s latest tape said.

[ etc. ]

Rather than fighting to liberate Iraq — as Bush claimed — it (the White House) should have been liberated.

The website had said earlier this month it would soon carry a  present  to Muslims from bin Laden on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

[ . . . ]

If you stop the war, then fine. Otherwise we will have no choice but to continue our war of attrition on every front… If you choose safety and stopping wars, as opinion polls show you do, then we are ready to respond to this.

You have only changed the faces in the White House,  he said, referring to Obama who took office this year.  Obama is a weakened man. He will not be able to stop the war.

My Note – seriously, look at the materials from the book listed above and other things known to be from him and compare – it isn’t the same by a long, long ways.

Thabet bin Laden

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Thabet bin Laden, a brother of terror mastermind Osama bin Laden, died Saturday. His age was not immediately known.

The death was announced by bin Laden’s family in the Al-Riyadh newspaper. It did not give a cause of death.

Thabet bin Laden was one of 54 children born to Mohammed bin Laden, a poor Yemeni immigrant who started the family contracting business in the 1930s that grew into a multimillion dollar construction empire.

The bin Laden family disavowed any links with Osama bin Laden in 1994, when Saudi Arabia stripped him of his citizenship after he called for the overthrow of the royal family.

My Note – so maybe the Saudis killed him and are burying him in his brother’s grave while putting out this cooked up message from him – I know they think up stuff like that and do it. Who would know?

Now, there’s a conspiracy theory in action . . .

[And since when do the Taliban talk about wanting to pursue Pashtun representation as they’ve been reporting on the CNN Afghanistan war coverage over the last few days? Who is giving them this information? Did the Taliban suddenly get a masters’ degree in government policy setting and facilitating change? or what? – or is Osama bin Laden there in the background somewhere helping explain it in a way the West can re-frame the Taliban and Afghan insurgents as the good guys? That sounds more like someone of Osama bin Laden’s education or a press liaison for the US military explaining for the journalists that have come over to have their look at the war.] – my note
