These are a couple of photographs of roses that I took in Atlanta after a rain this fall. They had the prettiest color of peachy salmon with little drops of rain on them under a very grey cloudy sky.

Ribbon Abstracts – pencil first sketches and inked works from this Christmas while waiting

These were created on the day before Christmas eve while waiting for shoppers to return – alrighty then . . .
The design above of a cat is the initial free-hand pencil rendering of the design which will later be inked on top of watercolors or against a white background with inked black line ribbons. I haven’t decided yet. I like the way it looks capturing catness without a bunch of foofurah.
And here are some of the others created the same day or the next as I was again waiting for shoppers to return – hmmmmm………….

The ribbon dragon above has been inked over the pencil rendering on white bristol board. Although it has no color background in this version, I’m thinking about doing it again with some color elements, either on the ribbon features or in the background with abstract watercolored textures. However, since that may detract from the intricate ink work – I’m still thinking how color would successfully be incorporated into it. Color would be nice, though. I like color.

Just for fun . . . .
These two animals are appreciably abstract with a very flat dimensional feel – but they are fun. I like them.

So far, all these are the same size and there is about a dozen of them with watercolor backgrounds and then ink work using technical pen on top. The ones above were done free-hand. Some have been designed and then pencil rendered with inked curving ribbons on top. The NYC inspired series are each on bristol board with Winsor & Newton watercolors, technical pen and some have Derwent watercolor pencil accents on Canson smooth bristol 9″x12″.
I wish all of my art was here in New York. I’d sell all of it. But, no . . .
There were three or four other paintings in this same style finished yesterday that I will put on the next post.
